Eduardo de Souza Alves holds a degree in Microbiology and Immunology from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and a master’s degree in Microbiology from the same institution. He has worked as a visiting researcher at the University of Guelph, in Canada, and was responsible for the Laboratory Surveillance Center in the General Coordination of Public Health Laboratories at the Ministry of Health. He is currently a consultant at the Ministry of Health, being responsible for the Research and Innovation area of the General Coordination of Surveillance of Tuberculosis, Endemic Mycoses and Non-Tuberculous Mycobacteria, also providing support on issues related to diagnosis. He works in the area of health management, especially in strategic coordination for the promotion and strengthening of public policies within the scope of the Unified Health System, with a focus on the prevention, diagnosis and surveillance of diseases of interest to public health. It collaborates with institutions such as CDC, FIOCRUZ, FIND, UNITAID and WHO in strengthening the antimicrobial resistance surveillance network in Brazil and in expanding access to diagnostic devices in the public health system.
