Antonio Gomes Pinto (Tuninho)

Deputy Director for Diagnostic Reagents at Bio-Manguinhos/Fiocruz. Senior Technologist at the institution since 1986, with over 30 years of experience in the development, production, and quality control of diagnostic products in healthcare.

He holds a PhD in Biosciences and Biotechnology from the Carlos Chagas Institute/Fiocruz, a Master’s degree in Immunobiological Technology from Fiocruz, and a degree in Chemistry from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ).

He has extensive experience in the development of diagnostic platforms, including immunochromatography and lateral flow assays (rapid and point-of-care tests), ELISA, indirect immunofluorescence assays (IFA), molecular techniques based on real-time PCR and LAMP, as well as multiplex serological assays and liquid and solid microarrays.

Throughout his career, he has contributed to the advancement of diagnostic technologies applied to infectious and blood-transmissible diseases. He occasionally participates in technical and scientific committees supporting programs of the Brazilian Ministry of Health, with a focus on diagnostics, quality control systems, and transfusion medicine.

He currently serves as Deputy Director for Diagnostic Reagents at Bio-Manguinhos/Fiocruz.
