holds the traditional poster award ceremony
The third and final day of the 6th International Symposium on Immunobiologicals (VI ISI), promoted by the Institute
of Technology in Immunobiologicals of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Bio-Manguinhos/Fiocruz), this Thursday
May 5, addressed some of the legacies of the pandemic COVID-19, both in technologies for the sector and in public health
and in public health policies. The last day of the event also brought the announcement of the winners of seven prizes
for the poster exhibition: one by popular vote of the participants, held on the symposium application, and
six by a judging commission, which this year also gave three honorable mentions.

Innovations in the development and production of biopharmaceuticals are highlights of the
second day of the International Symposium on Bio-Medicines Immunobiologicals
The second day of the 6th International Symposium on Immunobiologicals (VI ISI), promoted by the Institute of
Technology in Immunobiologicals of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Bio-Manguinhos/Fiocruz), on Wednesday, May 4
May, was marked by the theme of innovation and its impact on the present and future of the development and
production of biopharmaceuticals. In the axis of the discussions of the event’s panels, the guests presented and
and outlined new strategies, processes, and technologies that could increase productivity, reduce costs, and
facilitate scalability in the industry, helping to broaden patient access to its leading-edge products. Among
them – it is expected -, some out of the companies that participated in the special session dedicated to the Innovation Hub,
space designed to foster collaboration and partnership between researchers and entrepreneurs and present the technologies and
technologies and infrastructure for research and development in the biotechnology sector available at Fiocruz.

Day 1 - May 3rd
First day of the International Symposium on Bio-Maguinhos Immunobiologicals has discussions about vaccine production and application
The 6th International Symposium on Immunobiologicals (VI ISI), promoted by the Institute of Technology in Immunobiologicals of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Bio-Manguinhos/Fiocruz), began on Tuesday, May 3, in a hybrid format, with a series of discussions on the production and application of vaccines in the country and in the world, not only in the scenario of the current pandemic of COVID-19 as in a future post-pandemic. In the opening session of the scientific event, the director of Bio-Manguinhos, Maurício Zuma, highlighted the institute’s performance in fighting the health emergency caused by the new coronavirus. Among the main actions, the rapid development and manufacture of reagent kits for disease tests at the very beginning of the pandemic and, later, the partnership with the multinational pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca for technology transfer and national production of the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) of its vaccine against COVID-19, with the delivery of 180 million doses manufactured locally for the Ministry of Health so far.
