Cristian Morales is an economist graduated from the University of Montreal, Canada, where he obtained a master’s degree in Economics and another in Health Services Administration. He began his professional career as a professor of Health Economics at the same university and as a researcher in economic analysis of interventions to prevent vertical transmission of HIV/AIDS at the Sainte-Justine University Hospital in Montreal. Subsequently, his work focused on the economic aspects of integrated health systems for the elderly, with a project based at the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal and sponsored by McGill University and the University of Montreal. He also worked on the economic evaluation of a series of interventions aimed at introducing innovations in equity and efficiency within Canada’s healthcare system. He has served as a Representative of the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization in Venezuela, Mexico, and Cuba. For PAHO/WHO, he worked as a consultant in Health Systems and Services in Haiti and Venezuela, where he was also responsible for Aruba, Curaçao, Saint Maarten, and the Dutch Caribbean. He was the Regional Advisor on Health Economics and Financing at the PAHO headquarters in Washington D.C. During his career at PAHO, he received significant recognitions, including the biennial PAHO Extraordinary Leadership Awards for his work during the earthquake in Haiti, two times the Excellence Team Award, and, most recently, the Excellence Management Award. He is currently the Representative of the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization in Brazil.
