Guilherme Baldo holds a degree in Pharmacy from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, a master’s degree and a doctorate in Biological Sciences: Biochemistry from the same university, with an emphasis on Industrial Pharmacy, and completed a doctorate at Washington University in Saint Louis, United States. He has experience in the areas of Genetics, Physiology and Biochemistry, with an emphasis on Molecular and Cellular Biology, cell therapy and gene therapy, working mainly on the following topics: mucopolysaccharidoses, new therapies for genetic diseases, genome editing; the CRISPR/Cas-9 system; pathophysiological mechanisms of lysosomal storage diseases, and lysosome physiology. He has worked as coordinator of the PPG Physiology program at UFRGS. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Physiology at UFRGS, Professor of the Postgraduate Programs in Genetics and Molecular Biology and Physiology at UFRGS and is a member of CTNBio and participates in the National Network of Experts in Gene Therapy (RENETA), linked to ANVISA for the evaluation of Gene Therapy products in the country.
