Leda Castilho holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and a doctorate in Biochemical Engineering from the German Research Center for Biotechnology (GBF) and Technical University of Braunschweig, Germany.
He has experience in the area of Biochemical Engineering and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, working mainly in the areas of cloning and expression of proteins in mammalian cells, cultivation of animal cells and purification of biomolecules, with an emphasis on the development of advanced technologies for the production of biopharmaceuticals, inputs for diagnostic tests and vaccines.
She worked as a visiting researcher at the University of Bielefeld (Germany) and at the Vaccine Research Center (VRC) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH, USA). He was an Affiliate Member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences. Coordinated the National Technical Committee for Biopharmaceuticals established by the Brazilian Agency for Industrial Development (ABDI) within the scope of the ATS project.
She is currently a Full Professor at UFRJ, working in the Chemical Engineering Program at COPPE, where she coordinates the Cell Culture Engineering Laboratory (LECC). He is also a permanent professor at the Postgraduate Program in Biochemistry at IQ/UFRJ.
