Vice-President for Global Health and International Relations at the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), linked to the Brazilian Ministry of Health. She previously served as Vice-President for Research and Biological Collections and as Deputy Director of Reference Laboratories, Outpatient Services, and Biological Collections at the Oswaldo Cruz Institute (IOC/Fiocruz).
She is a virologist at the Laboratory of Respiratory and Exanthematic Viruses, Enteroviruses, and Viral Emergencies, and is part of national and WHO reference laboratories for SARS-CoV-2, influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), measles, rubella, poliovirus, and mpox.
A Senior Public Health Researcher at Fiocruz since 1987, she has extensive experience in research, health surveillance, and the management of public health emergencies, with a focus on epidemiologically and environmentally relevant viruses.
Her current interests include the development of a National Wastewater and Environmental Surveillance Network as an early warning system for epidemics and pandemics, in collaboration with the Brazilian Ministry of Health, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), and international partners.
She holds a degree in Biological Sciences, a Master’s degree with training at the Robert Koch Institute (Germany), and a PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology from Fiocruz. She has authored numerous scientific articles, book chapters, and technical documents for the Ministry of Health, and is actively involved in training human resources and coordinating national and international scientific events.
