Margareth Dalcomo holds a Ph.D. in Medicine from the Federal University of São Paulo. She has served as president of the Brazilian Society of Pulmonology and Phthisiology, member of the Scientific Committees of the Brazilian Societies of Pulmonology and Infectious Diseases, and former coordinator of the Technical Chamber of Pulmonology and Thoracic Surgery at the Regional Medical Council of the State of Rio de Janeiro.
With over 130 scientific articles published nationally and internationally, she has received numerous honors throughout her career: Woman of the Year by ELA magazine of O Globo; Personality of the Year by the Archdiocese of Rio de Janeiro; the Dra. Nise da Silveira Award by the City of Rio de Janeiro; one of the 20 Most Influential Women by Forbes magazine; Personality of the Year by the O Globo system; the EMERJ Human Rights Award; and Chevalier of the Legion of Honor by the Government of France.
Currently, she is a senior researcher at the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (FIOCRUZ) and a member of the Steering Committee of the RESIST TB Group at Boston Medical School in the United States, as well as the TB Research Network (REDE TB). She is also part of the Expert Group for the World Health Organization’s Essential Medicines List. She serves on the Regional Advisory Committee of the World Bank for health projects in Sub-Saharan Africa focused on tuberculosis and occupational respiratory diseases. She is a faculty member in the postgraduate program at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro.
A weekly columnist for O Globo newspaper in the Hora da Ciência section, she has been a science communicator in the press since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, with over 600 media appearances and interviews.
